FROM A CRAZY IDEA TO A GLOBAL YOUTH MOVEMENT
A few years ago, two friends began praying about a dream they shared. "What would happen if we actually trusted Jesus enough to follow his model to train youth and get out of their way?"
They put together a diverse team of young adults to create one tool that could work anywhere in the world. Then they tested their theory in a variety of locations around the globe.
What happened? Young people couldn't believe it. They were being given permission to lead and experiencing life to the full as Jesus worked in and through their lives.
Then those young people told their friends. What began as a prayer and a crazy idea swelled into a global movement of youth, by youth, for youth—from a ripple to wave.
Now, a couple of years later, thousands of young people nearly 70 nations have downloaded the free app to start WAVES in schools, churches, universities, and more.
WAVES are youth-led on the local level with the support of adult mentors as young people learn by doing and experience Jesus working in and through their lives. On a global level, a WAVES World Council comprised of a diverse team of individuals give leadership to the strategic growth of the movement.
WAVES began in 2015 as a collaborative effort between Endeavor Ministries and The Surf Project. As the project has grown, so has the need for organizational structure. WAVES remains a brand and initiative of Endeavor Ministries with additional leadership and oversight provided through a global advisory board.
WAVES is a volunteer movement with minimal administrative staff. Financial contributions are used for resource development as well as expansion efforts and leadership training. All financial donations to WAVES are tax-deductible and managed by Endeavor Ministries, a 501(c)3 non-profit Christian organization.
WAVES continue to form as Jesus leads young people across the world to take a stand for the causes and concerns he places in their hearts. In the map below, you can see where WAVES are forming. Please keep watching as we continue to update the map.
